How do I prepare myself financially to adopt?

by Kent Brand

For many families, the financial preparation is one of the most difficult parts to the preparation to adopt. At HOPE for Children we are committed to giving you great ideas to assist you in this part of the adoption journey.

In thirty years as a social worker, I have never seen a family who deeply wanted to adopt for whom God did not provide the money! Faith is key to success in this area of preparation.

The Adoption Tax Credit idea started at the HOPE for Children office and is now law. Many couples borrow the $10,000 and repay it after their adoption is finalized.

I have seen couples who have raised the whole adoption fee by writing a letter to friends and family. A sample letter is available at the HOPE for Children office.

Increasingly popular are adoption benefits offered by many companies. To explore this further, visit www.adoptionbenefits.com. Many companies offer $3,000 – $5,000 adoption benefits. If your company does not have a program such as this, encourage them to start one.

Likewise, many churches have adoption funds which have assisted many families with their adoption fees.
