How do I prepare myself psychologically to adopt?
by Kent Brand
The world is full of successful adoption stories. There are also the adoption horror stories. How do I know which path I will go down? No one can totally guarantee success or predict failure. Research has shown that over 90% of adoptions in America have been found to have well adjusted, happy children. But HOPE for Children has found through experience that helping adoptive families to be realistic about adoption and praying for the best has greatly assisted adoptions in being successful.
Learning to be flexible and understanding that the child came from different genes, culture, and family greatly assists in understanding the child’s educational capability, personality, and life interests.
Having an attitude of gratitude, sober preparation, and great faith make all the difference between an unhappy and a happy adoption. |
